A while ago I had a conversation with my host mother about malnutrition in Bolivia. From her perspective, it was purely a matter of money and culture. Many people here simply cannot afford to buy food anymore. Orginally, for 2 bolivianos one would be able to buy a huge bulk amount of fruits and vegetables. Now, one can just buy a small bag of vegetables. There are people here who can only afford to eat potatoes here, every day, for breakfast lunch and dinner. There are people here who do not function on the basis of money but rather their own farming. Its only logical then that people will develop malnutrition.
